Employment Associate Lawyer

Our client a dynamic, downtown Ottawa law firm is currently seeking an experienced Employment Lawyer to join their firm. Our client prides themselves on having a collaborative, collegial, creative team, and simply love the law. They serve a wide variety of clients, from individuals to international corporations.

Your Responsibilities:

 

• The Employment Lawyer will be involved in all aspects of employment law, including: advising and representing clients across various industries on workplace issues of all kinds, including employment standards, human rights, and occupational health and safety matters.
• The Employment Lawyer will assist employers in developing and implementing a variety of workplace contracts and policies, and advise clients with respect to employment agreements and employee entitlements upon termination of employment.
• The Employment Lawyer will appear before arbitration boards, federal and provincial labour boards, human rights tribunals, federal and provincial courts, and other administrative tribunals with respect to employment litigation.

 

Your Requirements:

 

• 3+ Years’ Post-Call Experience as a lawyer in Ontario working with a law firm dealing in employment law or as in-house counsel dealing with employment related matters
• Good understanding of employment law
• Experience drafting employment agreement and workplace policies
• Experience representing plaintiffs before courts and tribunals on wrongful dismissal claims, human rights proceedings, employment standards proceedings, and restrictive covenant litigation
• Experience advising employers on employment and workplace matters
• Member in Good Standing of the Law Society of Ontario (LSO) (Required)
• Juris Doctor (J.D.) or Bachelor of Laws (LL.B) (Required)
• Very strong technical skills using: Microsoft Office, Document Management software, Soluno (or similar time keeping application), docketing, billing time
• Ability to work closely, and in collaboration with clients, other lawyers, clerks, and staff
• Able to work and reason independently on client files
• Ability to handle all aspects of files with minimal guidance, but with the full support of the firm and staff
• Possess excellent organizational skills and be able to work in a fast-paced environment with strong attention to detail
• Ability to multi-task and meet tight deadlines
