Manager, Accounting & Financial Reporting

Our client, one of Canada’s largest and most successful law firms, has an immediate opening for a Manager, Accounting & Financial Reporting to join their Finance department in their Toronto office.


Role Description:


The successful candidate will be responsible for the delivery for all accounting and related financial reporting for the firm and its partners. This individual should have a deep understanding of accounting process and strong leadership & team mentoring skills.    


Your responsibilities will include:


  • Managing the day-to-day accounting functions to ensure proper accounting treatment is being applied, with particular attention to ensuring accurate account coding
  • Managing the monthly financial reporting process, including the preparation and review of monthly financial statements
  • Managing the year-end reporting process, including the preparation and review of the partnership and pension plan financial statements
  • Managing the external audit process, acting as the main contact for the external auditors
  • Managing the preparation of year-end tax returns for both the business entities and partners
  • Assisting with management of the Firm’s cash flow
  • Managing the annual budgeting and monthly forecasting processes
  • Liaising with other teams within the Finance department to ensure continuous improvement and seamless delivery of processes and information across the function
  • Leading and mentoring a team of Accounting & Financial Reporting Analysts for effective and continued improvement in performance, including management of the annual performance process
  • Leading in the development and delivery of ongoing change requirements in the scope of tasks and accountabilities of the Accounting & Financial Reporting team


Your Qualifications:


  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting and finance is preferred
  • Accounting designation
  • Minimum of fours years of experience in a professional services firm would be an asset
  • Strong team leadership, including accountability for team mentoring, team building and performance management
  • Working knowledge of Accounting Standards for Private Enterprises (ASPE); must be able to interpret and apply guidance in accordance with ASPE
  • Ability to identify and investigate variances
  • Proficiency in partnership accounting is an asset but not required
  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills
  • Strict attention to detail and accuracy, with a demonstrated ability to work independently, multi-task and meet deadlines
  • Accounting software experience is an asset but not required
